Favorite Songs of April 2016

It’s that time again. This month seemed to go by so fast, it felt like March was only a week ago. I don’t have much to say other than I’m typing this from a new keyboard, so lets get right into it.

Laboum – Journey to Atlantis

I somehow forgot Laboum was even having a comeback so the first time I heard this was on a music show. It’s not really what I’d expect a Laboum song to sound like but I still enjoy it. I really love Laboum and I hope one day they can break through and get popular.

JYP – Still Alive & Fire

JYPE have been on fire lately. GOT7 has been pumping out songs, Day6 seem very promising, Twice are dominating with only one single, Wonder Girls’ Reboot was amazing, and now it’s JYP’s turn. Still Alive is a typical JYP song about him being JYP,  if you like JYP you’ll like this. What I’m more interested in is Fire. When I saw Conan was in Korea and met with JYP I figured it’d be short sketch with maybe a joke about JYP’s pants or something so I didn’t care enough to follow what was happening. Instead we got Fire, a JYP song about Conan wanting to party in Korea with cameos from Miss A, Wonder Girls, Twice, and Kpop flavored alcohol. I made this same face the first time I heard Like Ooh-Ahh. God bless JYP.

Eunji – Hopefully Sky

Hopefully Sky (literal translation) is Eunji’s title song on her self written and composed solo debut album. It’s a standard Spring song but Eunji added enough to make it not boring. I love her voice so I’ve been listening to this song a lot even though I don’t normally like this type of music.

Twice – Cheer Up

Twice are back with Cheer Up and an entire mini album of “cheer” style songs. I’m not really sure how I feel about the song. I don’t think it’s terrible but I don’t think it’s great. I love the drum and bass during the chorus and of course Sana’s ShyShyShy, but the rest of the song feels so random. It reminds me of IGAB in some ways. I think MRJ did a good job at explaining what I don’t like about the song in a more technical way, here’s his review if you want to watch.

Lovelyz – Destiny

When I first heard about Lovelyz and saw they were from Woollim this is actually the kind of music I expected them to make. My only disappointment with this song and the album is they never really took advantage of their vocal skills. I understand not doing it in Destiny because it might not fit the song but the rest of the songs on the album were pretty forgettable.

Berry Good – Angel

Normally I list songs in order by their release date but I saved this one for last for a reason. This and Lovelyz’ Destiny sound like they could be a two part song, I’d almost say this sounds more like a Lovelyz song than Destiny does. I just wish the song was a little longer.
